You have a health bar which can be replenished a little if you choose to eat fallen foes which make it a little easier. Grant, having a super high jump which means any gap can be cleared with ease. Your puny claws cannot grip weapons so all of your attacks are all close range bites and slashes. The velociraptor levels play a lot differently. It's best to just bypass the vast majority of these creatures. The amount of time it takes for you to get back up is just about the same time as it takes for that triceratops to turn around and hit you again. The dinosaurs tend to bum rush you and knock you over. There may be the odd puzzle lying around to break up the action, but you'll be spending most of your time cursing the screen when stuck at a mandatory jump you just can't seem to cross. Grant is generally OK to control he can run and shoot with a fair amount of accuracy, but the need for precise jumping shows how broken his segments actually are. The areas are huge which amplifies the frustration caused by the fact that the cart has no save file or password system. Exploration is the key here mixed with a bit of trial and error. The exterior sections are basically treasure-hunting sections which can get frustrating if you don't know what to do. After a few minutes of play though, these sections can become repetitive and tedious. That style of game was almost unheard of on the humble SNES. Once you enter the buildings, the game-play is switched to that of a first-person shooter, which wowed me when I first saw it two decades ago. This open-world can be explored at your leisure, but some areas are cordoned off requiring keycards to enter.

Their Super Nintendo version was the only one that I was familiar with before now and despite some flaws, it treats its license well. Ocean, who developed the computer and Nintendo versions, was known for movie licenses and as such relied on a large variety of game styles. There's a ton based on the first movie alone so let's dig in.īoth SEGA and Ocean Software wrangled the videogame rights for different platforms. With Jurassic Park being released in the UK today, I'd thought we'd take a look at some of the games inspired on the franchise. Anyone who says otherwise has only seen the third movie.
